In a recent interview, Jane Palfreyman, Nurse Unit Manager at Tasmanian Health Service, shared insights into the innovative COVID@homeplus service and its journey of adaptation amidst the challenges of the pandemic. The COVID@homeplus program was established during the pandemic to provide virtual care to Tasmanians with COVID and other respiratory illnesses, anticipating the need for additional support as Tasmania prepared to open its borders.
The interview highlights the initial challenges the team faced, including tight deadlines and workforce shortages. However, through rapid adaptation and upskilling, they successfully implemented the program, which utilises monitoring kits and virtual consultations to provide efficient care to patients at home.
One key aspect of the program is its proactive approach to gathering patient feedback using Insync’s patient surveys. They have achieved consistently high patient experience scores since the program’s commencement in December 2021, with Insync’s survey insights being instrumental in shaping improvements to the service.
As virtual care continues to gain momentum, programs like COVID@homeplus serve as pioneers in transforming healthcare delivery to meet the evolving needs and expectations of patients.
