The sector right now

A sector where your people are the product

In professional services and corporate organisations, the quality of your people’s work is what you sell. Attracting, developing and keeping high performers in competitive talent markets has always been the defining challenge, and it has only intensified.

Hybrid work has changed how culture is built and how engagement holds together. Psychosocial risk is now a compliance reality, and a challenging one for firms where long hours and client pressure are built into the model. AI is now reshaping what knowledge work even is, and with it the question of what clients pay for and how careers are built. And the organisations growing fastest have stopped treating employee and client experience as separate.

The clients we work with understand that knowing what their people are experiencing isn’t a soft exercise. It’s a strategic one, and increasingly a governance one too.

What we hear from sector leaders

Four challenges every corporate and professional services leader recognises

These are the specific issues that CPOs, CEOs, and People and Culture leaders in corporate and professional services regularly raise with us.

1

Managing the people side of AI and the productivity push

No sector is more exposed to AI than professional services, where knowledge work is the product. The push to adopt AI and boost productivity is reshaping roles, disrupting career pathways and leaving people unsure where they add value. We measure what that change is doing to your workforce: where job demands and burnout risk are rising, role clarity and confidence are slipping, and connection to the firm’s direction is weakening.

2

Keeping high performers in a competitive market

Pay alone doesn’t retain the best people in professional services. Understanding what actually drives engagement, loyalty and advocacy in your specific workforce takes measurement that goes well beyond salary benchmarking.

3

Managing psychosocial risk in high-pressure environments

High workloads, long hours, tight deadlines and demanding client expectations can be part of professional services, but they can also create psychosocial hazards. Meeting your obligations properly requires more than a compliance exercise. It takes robust measurement to identify where risks exist, understand what drives them, and prioritise meaningful action.

4

Linking employee experience to client outcomes

The best firms know that how their people feel about their work shapes the quality of what they deliver to clients. Measuring employee experience and client experience together shows you where to invest for both, which is something most providers can’t help you do.

The team that will understand your organisation

When you work with Insync’s corporate and professional services team, you’re working with senior consultants who understand the performance expectations, talent dynamics and cultural complexity of your sector.

Dr Erika Szerda

Dr Erika Szerda

Head of Employee Experience

Erika leads Insync’s employee experience portfolio, working with leaders in financial services, professional services, engineering, industrials and mining to build cultures that perform under pressure.

A registered psychologist with a Doctorate in organisational and industrial psychology, Erika brings over 17 years of experience working across Australia and Hong Kong — and a rigorous, evidence-based lens to every engagement.

Despite decades of research on leadership and engagement, many organisations are still going backwards. The gap is rarely ideas — it’s clarity. Erika works closely with leaders to understand the specific context before cutting to what matters — identifying the levers that will actually move the dial and building the confidence to act on them. She led the revalidation of Insync’s proprietary employee diagnostic, ensuring it remains statistically robust, current, and built for the decisions leaders actually need to make.

Her work cuts through the noise to find the signal — and then helps leaders act on it.

Common questions

Things sector leaders ask us

Do your benchmarks include corporate and professional services data?

Yes. Our benchmark pool includes data from corporate and professional services organisations across the property, consulting, legal, architecture, and business services sectors. Your results are compared to organisations that face similar talent markets, performance cultures and workforce dynamics to yours.

Can you help us understand our psychosocial risk exposure?

Yes. Our psychosocial risk assessment identifies the specific hazards in your organisation and gives you a prioritised improvement plan. In professional services, that commonly means job demands, role clarity, change fatigue and interpersonal conflict. We help you meet your legislative obligations and address the underlying causes, not just document them.

We already run an annual engagement survey. Why would we switch?

Plenty of organisations run a survey and never see change follow. The instrument is rarely the problem; the gap is usually interpretation, prioritisation and follow-through. Insync gives you a senior consultant who reads your results against sector-specific benchmarks, identifies the few highest-value priorities, and supports your leadership team through action planning. If your current survey is producing data but not change, that’s the gap we close.

Can one partner really cover engagement, culture, leadership and customer experience?

Yes, and that’s the point. Most firms end up with separate providers for engagement, culture, leadership development and CX, and the data never joins up. Insync covers all of it, with the same sector team connecting the threads, and through our sister brand Insync Boards we extend into board and executive effectiveness. You get one coherent view of your organisation rather than four disconnected ones.
